Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

v3.1.1

Smooth takeover image zoom effect.

What

Vanilla JS, zero-dependency takeover zoom effect like the images here.

How

Webpack

import Zoomhaus from 'zoomhaus'

new Zoomhaus('element-selector')

Other

  1. Include dist/bundle.js.
  2. new Zoomhaus('element-selector') on any elements you want to zoom on click.

That's it!

Options

new Zoomhaus('element-selector', {
    // Will the image be able to grow and shrink when moving to and from its container?
    grow: true,

    // Can we page through images with left/right arrow keys?
    arrows: true,

    // Can we use the 'esc' key to close an open gallery?
    esc: true,

    // Margins for expanded image
    marginX: 50,
    marginY: 50,

    // Selector for template element - see below
    template: false,

    // Does a click anywhere close the open overlay?
    clickToExit: true,

    // Does a scroll close the open overlay?
    closeOnScroll: true,

    // Replacement for zoomhaus.goto method. Accepts 3 params: Zoomhaus instance, outgoing element, and incoming element.
    onGoTo: false,

    // Selectors that close the overlay when clicked
    close: false,

    // CSS to be added to Zoomhaus defaults. Set to `false` to prevent any style injection.
    style: ''
})

A note on template - If template is set to a valid selector, Zoomhaus will grab the first element that matches that selector and place it in the image overlay. Useful for pager elements on the overlay itself, for example.

Methods

Usage:

var z = new Zoomhaus('.element-selector')
z.methodName()
  • close() - Close an open overlay.
  • goto(index) - Go to a particular Zoomhaus target. Loops automatically.
  • next() - Go to the next Zoomhaus target. Loops automatically.
  • previous() - Go to the previous Zoomhaus target. Loops automatically.

Properties

  • elements - Elements that this Zoomhaus instance watches.
  • index - Index of current or last active zoomed-in element.
  • opts - Options for Zoomhaus instance.

Development

  1. Clone or fork this repo.
  2. npm install
  3. npm run dev to watch the contents of src. Runs a webpack-dev-server that serves a rendered version of ./index.ejs, a demo of the plugin in action.
  4. npm run build to bundle, and minify to dist/bundle.js.
