Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Vuepress Plugin React

A Vuepress Plugin for rendering React component in Vuepress markdown on top of Vite Bundler, typed with JsDoc.

This is a plugin for Vuepress Next(v2.0.0 up) which is in beta during the plugin was creating.(tested in beta.67)

Install

$ npm install vuepress-plugin-react @vuepress/bundler-vite @vitejs/plugin-react

setup Vuepress config

// docs/.vuepress/config.js
import { defineUserConfig } from "vuepress";
import { viteBundler } from "@vuepress/bundler-vite";
import react from "@vitejs/plugin-react";
import ReactPlugin from "vuepress-plugin-react";
import path from 'path';

export default defineUserConfig({
  bundler: viteBundler({
    viteOptions: {
      plugins: [react()],
    },
  }),

  plugins: [
    ReactPlugin({
      componentsDir: path.resolve(__dirname, "./components-react"),
    }),
  ]
});

create React component

// docs/.vuepress/components-react/Counter.jsx
import { useState } from "react";

const Counter = ({ className }) => {
  const [count, setCount] = useState(0);
  return (
    <div className={className}>
      Count: {count}
      <button onClick={() => setCount(count + 1)}>ADD</button>
    </div>
  );
};

export default Counter;

use in anywhere of your Markdown file

By default, all registered React Component in the given folder path will be accessible by using VueReact component and as props to specify which React component you want to use, you can change the default component name in config for different component folder.

# React in Vuepress

- A rendered React Component - Counter
<VueReact as="Counter" className="my-react-counter" />

Pre-Render Supported

By default, the React component will be rendered in client with createRoot and pre-render by renderToString before client ready(build-time), you can disable the pre-render feature by giving clientOnly prop, this way the react component will not be pre-rendered anymore

<VueReact as="Counter" clientOnly />

Dynamic import Supported

Each of your React component will be dynamic loaded by Suspense, only when they are used in the current markdown page, so No need to worry about whether these React components will be loaded and decrease the loading speed in every page.

Options

Since this plugin is mostly based on @vuepress/plugin-register-components, you can see the documentation there. Just some adjustment for default config as following

const defaultOptions = {
  // Name of component in Markdown, please restart vuepress server after changing the name
  "name": "VueReact",
  "components": {},
  "componentsDir": null,
  "componentsPatterns": ["**/*.jsx"],
  "getComponentName": (filename) => path.trimExt(filename.replace(/\/|\\/g, ""))
}

nested folder component

If you have a component path like .vuepress/components-react/Home/Counter.jsx, you can access the component as following:

<VueReact as="HomeCounter" />

change default component name

export default defineUserConfig({
  // ...
  plugins: [
    ReactPlugin({
      name: 'UseReact',
      componentsDir: path.resolve(__dirname, "./components-react"),
    }),
  ]
});
<UseReact as="Counter" />

Reference

Thanks a lot for the inspiration of plugin @vuepress/plugin-register-components.
