Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Vue Segments

Vue Segments is a very small library providing basic building blocks for creating panels/rows with columns.

Demo

Check it out here: https://padcom.github.io/vue-segments

Installation

To install the library issue the following command:

$ npm install --save-dev vue-segments

Usage

After installing, using the library is pretty simple. The library exports the standard Vue's plugin interface and can be installed in any application easily:

import { createApp } from 'vue'

import 'vue-segments/dist/style.css'
import segments from 'vue-segments'

import App from './App.vue'

createApp(App)
  .use(segments)
  .mount('#app')

Then you can use the provided Panel and Column components like this:

<Panel style="background-color: lightred">
  <Column style="background-color: red">Column 1</Column>
  <Column style="background-color: blue">Column 2</Column>
</Panel>

You can also use the "Row/Column" syntax:

<Row style="background-color: lightred">
  <Column style="background-color: red" width="30%">Column 1</Column>
  <Column style="background-color: green">
    <Column style="background-color: orange">Column A</Column>
    <Column style="background-color: white">Column B</Column>
  </Column>
  <Column style="background-color: blue">
    <Column style="background-color: yellow">Column X</Column>
    <Column style="background-color: pink">Column Y</Column>
  </Column>
</Row>

Please note, that any given column can either have an auto-calculated width or a given one, as shown with Column 1. The value of width prop needs to be a valid CSS size expression.

Changing the gap between columns

The standard gap between columns is 12px. To change it overwrite the segments-gap CSS variable like so:

<style>
:root {
  --segments-gap: 0px; /* new gap width */
}
</style>

Using just the styles

It is also possible to use just the styles from this library. It is pretty simple, there are 5 classes to choose from:

.row / .panel - a horizontal block, can contain .columns.

.column - a vertical block (you nest those under .row or .panel

.full-width - the .column becomes a .row/.column

.fixed-width - the .column will have the defined width (must set the width property!)
