Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

medium-like picture by default, canvas power if you need

Install

npm

npm i vue-picture-master

Vue

import { PictureMaster, helpers } from 'vue-picture-master'

export default {
  components: {
    PictureMaster
  }
}

Usage

template

<template>
  <PictureMaster
    :placeholder="placeholder"
    :cuts="cuts"
    :base-image="baseImage"
    :height-ratio="0.75"
    :custom-canvas="false"
    :animated="true"
    :blurred="true"
    :force-loading-delay="750"
    @load="onLoad" />
</template>

props

// very little placeholder (width: 40px, height: 30px most likely)
const placeholder = {
  src: 'https://placekitten.com/40/30',
  alt: 'kitten-placeholder'
}

// complete sources array, we get it from helpers
const cuts = helpers.builder(({ src, width }) => `https://placekitten.com/${width}/${Math.round(width * 0.75)}`)
  ({
    types: [
      'image/webp',
      'image/jpeg'
    ]
  })

// the tiniest image you want to display
const baseImage = {
  srcset: 'https://placekitten.com/400/300 1x, https://placekitten.com/800/600 2x,',
  alt: 'alt text'
}

// height ratio compared to width (height / width), we get it from helpers
const heightRatio = helpers.heightRatio(width)(height)

// default false, true if you want to have a clean <canvas></canvas> instead of the tiny placeholder
const customCanvas = false

// default true, set to false if you don't want the default transition time
const animated = true

// default true, set to false if you don't want the default medium-like blur-out animation
const blurred = true

// default 750ms, if something goes wrong with the plugin (iPhone 6), this forces the image load after some time
const forceLoadingDelay = 750

methods

// get the created inner canvas so you can play with it, get it after the component mount
const canvas = component.getCanvas()

// now you can use the canvas, try it with PIXI or THREEJS

events

  • @load="src => {}"

called when the picture is fully loaded callbacks with the loaded image src

helpers

helpers.builder()

// gets the height ratio
const width = 400
const height = 300

helpers.heightRatio(width)(height) // -> 0.75
