Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

// CommomJS
var VtexShelfProperties = require('vtex-shelf-properties');

// ES6 module
import VtexShelfProperties from 'vtex-shelf-properties';

Usage

With UMD (Universal Module Definition), the package is available on VTEX namespace.

For every shelf type, you will need create a new instance of VtexShelfProperties

// First, initialize VtexUtils.js
var vtexUtils = new VTEX.VtexUtils();

// Then, initialize VtexCatalog.js
var vtexCatalog = VTEX.VtexCatalog(vtexUtils);

// Initialize constructor passing a instance of VtexUtils.js and VtexCatalog.js as a param
vtexShelfProperties = new VTEX.VtexShelfProperties(vtexUtils, vtexCatalog, handler);

Instance Params

The handler param is a callback function. There are two params: current DOM element and related product object info.

This handle is used to set custom properties into DOM element (set on setShelfContainer method) inside a shelf.

Example

<!-- Inside a Shelf Template, create your container -->
<div class="js--shelf-basic" data-product-id"$product.Id"></div>
function myCustomProp($el, product) {
    var markup =
        '<a href="' + product.link + '" title="' + product.productName + '">' +
            '<h2>' + product.productName + '</h2>' +
            '<small>' + product.productReference + '</small>' +
            '<p>' + product.description + '</p>' +
        '</a>';

    $el.append(markup);
}

var vtexShelfProperties = new VTEX.VtexShelfProperties(vtexUtils, vtexCatalog, myCustomProp);
shelfProperties.setLoadedClass('is--shelf-loaded');
shelfProperties.setEventName('shelfBasic');
shelfProperties.setShelfContainer('.js--shelf-basic');

Methods

vtexShelfProperties.setLoadedClass(className)

Add a custom class on loaded elements.

Default loaded class is is--loaded

Needs to call before setShelfContainer method.

  • className:
    • Type: String
    • Name of custom loaded class

Example

// Set custom loaded class
vtexShelfProperties.setLoadedClass('is--shelf-loaded');
<!-- Your element class is like: -->
<div class="js--shelf-basic is--shelf-loaded" data-product-id"123">
  <!-- Properties added -->
</div>

vtexShelfProperties.setEventName(eventName)

Create custom event name for actual instance.

Needs to call before setShelfContainer method.

  • eventName:
    • Type: String
    • Name of custom event when triggered on request end.

Example

// Set custom event name
vtexShelfProperties.setEventName('shelfBasic');
// And use like:
$(document).on('shelfBasic.vtexShelfProperties', function(ev) {
  window.console.log(ev);
});

// If this method is not provide, the default event name is:
$(document).on('requestEnd.vtexShelfProperties', function(ev) {
  window.console.log(ev);
});

vtexShelfProperties.setShelfContainer(shelfClass)

Any container inside your shelf to receive custom properties.

Your container needs have a data attribute with product id.

  • shelfClass:
    • Type: String
    • Name of shelf container class

Example

<!-- Your container -->
