Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

verdad-js

A dynamic and scalable validation library for javascript/typescript applications. Execute any combination of built-in and custom validation rules for your js code in any node environment.

Installation

Using Yarn:

$ yarn add verdad-js

Using NPM:

$ npm i -g npm
$ npm i verdad-js

Verdad receives arguments for data and validation rule configuration to execute on said data, and returns arrays of strings with default or custom validation errors depending on configuration.

import validate, { MAX_VALUE } from "verdad-js";

const data = {
  MPH: 70,
};

const config = {
  MPH: {
    rules: {
      [MAX_VALUE]: 60,
    },
  },
};

const { valid, errorState } = validate(data, config);
console.log(valid); // false
console.log(errorState); // { MPH: ["MPH must be less than 61" ]}

VerdadJS is perfect for forms where input values need to remain controlled and state is complex.

Have to validate an object's key that may not be ideal for users to see? No problem! VerdadJS allows for overriding error messages with custom labels and messageOverrides.

import validate, { EMAIL, MAX_VALUE, MIN_VALUE, PATTERN, REQUIRED } from "verdad-js";

const data = {
  name: 'Harry Hood',
  email: 'harryhood',
  address: {
      streetOne: '171 Mr. Miner Road',
      streetTwo: '',
      city: 'Denver',
      state: 'CO',
      zipCode: 80030,
  }
};

const config = {
    name: {
        rules: {
            [REQUIRED]: true,
            [MAX_LENGTH]: 8,
            [MIN_LENGTH]: 3,
        },
    },
    email: {
        rules: {
            [REQUIRED]: true,
            [EMAIL]: true,
            [MIN_LENGTH]: 3,
        },
    },
    address: {
        streetOne: {
            rules: {
                [REQUIRED]: true,
                [MAX_LENGTH]: 8,
                [MIN_LENGTH]: 3,
            },
        },
        city: {
            rules: {
                [REQUIRED]: true,
            },
        },
        state: {
            rules: {
                [REQUIRED]: true,
            },
        },
    zipCode: {
        label: 'zip code',
        rules: {
            [REQUIRED]: true,
            [PATTERN]: {
                ruleProp: '/^\d{5}(-\d{4})?$/',
                messageOverride: "must conform to this format: 78746-3043",
            },
        },
    },
};

const { valid, errorState } = validate(data, config);
console.log(valid); // false
console.log(errorState);
/*

        name: [],
        email: ['email is not a valid email address', 'email must be less than 9 characters in length'],

        }
    }
*/
