Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

ts-mckr

A small library to fast create typed mock servers.

Purpose

You can use this library to test your React (or other framework) components without the need of a backend server.

It wraps msw, so you can refer to the documentation here.

FakerJS is used under the hood to provide data generation, full documentation here.

Features

  • Small and lightweight
  • Built-in Typescript support
  • Works with all javascript frameworks
  • Create a full queryable database with:
    • generated fake data (thanks to FakerJS)
    • your data (json, text, and so on...)

Installation

npm install -s msw ts-mckr
or
yarn add msw ts-mckr
or
pnpm install msw ts-mckr

Usage

Initialize mswjs

As said here this library is essentially a msw wrap, so to work the Service Worker needs to be create. To do so, just run:

npx msw init ./public --save
or
pnpx msw init ./public --save

Create Handlers for the mock server

// Import
import dbUtils, { MockServer, MockServerInit } from 'ts-mckr';

// Import static data
import quotes from './quotes.json';

// Database creation
const mockDb = {
  quotes: {
    id: dbUtils.primaryKey(Number),
    quote: String,
    author: String,
  },
  users: {
    id: dbUtils.primaryKey(Number),
    name: String,
  },
};

const handlers = new MockServer()
  // Database init
  .createDB(mockDb)
  // Dataset injection, using fake data
  .createDataSet(
    {
      users: [
        {
          name: MockServer.getFakeData({ module: 'name', method: 'fullName', language: 'it' }),
          birthDate: MockServer.getFakeData({ module: 'date', method: 'birthdate' }),

          /* or with object declaration (not recommended)
                        👇 we need this to get faker methods, if you have better solution, please create a pull request.
            name: <FakerData<'name'>>{ module: 'name', method: 'fullName', language: 'it' },
            birthDate: <FakerData<'date'>>{ module: 'date', method: 'birthdate' },
          */
        },
      ],
    },
    // Dataset options
    { repeat: 40 }
  )
  // Dataset injection, using json data (static)
  .createDataSet({ quotes })
  // Get handlers (get, post, ecc...)
  .createHandlers();

// Create worker
const worker = MockServerInit(...handlers);

Start Mock server

// Use worker previously init
await worker.start({ onUnhandledRequest: 'bypass' });

Example using axios

interface DummyUsers {
  id: number;
  name: string;
  birthDate: string;
}

// Create api endpoint, params will contains filter and pagination data
const listUsers = (params?: object) =>
  axiosInstance.get<unknown, ViewData<DummyUsers>>('/users', {
    params: { ...params, delay: 250 },
  });

Options (optional)

| | type | default | required | | :-----------: | :-----: | :-----: | :------: | | repeat | number | 1 | ❌ | | autoIncrement | boolean | true | ❌ |
