Trochaic
An ultra-light-weight template engine for Javascript based on jQuery and jQuery replaceText.
Template language
A template is either a string or a jQuery object. (HTML markup in the former is ignored and printed literally.)
The placeholder syntax is one of the following:
{type:var1:...:varN}
invokes the renderer function "type" with the variables "var1" through "varN". Empty variable names will becomeundefined
values.{:var1:...:varN}
is short for{var1:var1:...:varN}
, effectively using the first variable's name as the render type.{var1}
is short for{:var1}
.
Requirements
Both jQuery and jQuery replaceText must be installed to use this library.
Usage
A renderer system is a standard object of the form:
var types = {
type1: function(var1, /* ..., */ varN) {
return "string";
},
type2: function(var) {
return $('<span>Markup</span>');
},
person: function(person) {
return person.firstname + " " + person.lastname;
}
}
Calling Trochaic({...})
will build and return a render function that can be
used to render any template:
var render = Trochaic(types)
render("Hello, {person}", {
person: {
firstname: 'John',
lastname: 'Smith'
}
});
