tchat
Terminal based, hassle free chat.
Installation
sudo npm install -g tchat
Usage
tchat
- connects to the tchat server and creates a new randomly named room:
nick@dev:~$ tchat
Connecting as makeusabrew
Created new room: "rechargeable"
=> hello world!
tchat [room]
- connects to the tchat server and joins the named room. Note
that the room must already exist; at present the only way to create a room is
to let the server randomly assign you one which can then be shared with other
participants.
nick@dev:~$ tchat rechargeable
Connecting as makeusabrew
Joined room: "rechargeable"
=>
Once launched, CTRL+C exits.
First run
The first time tchat is run it will prompt you for a username which will subsequently be
saved in a JSON configuration file at ~/.tchat.coffee
:
nick@dev:~$ tchat
Please enter a username (you only have to do this once):
<= makeusabrew
Username saved to /home/nick/.tchat
You can edit this file to alter various preferences
Connecting as makeusabrew
Notes
There will eventually be a public tchat server once the code has stabilised a bit. In practice,
the above commands will fail to connect unless you're running the server process yourself
(./bin/tchat-server.coffee
) on the same host as the client. You can override the host
key by manually adding it in your JSON ~/.tchat
config file for privately networked chat
rooms in the meantime.
