Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

tapShow.js

tapShow.js Demo Animation

Introduction

tapShow.js is a javascript plugin that allows a user to click / (tap) the box, then it will expand and show the full details about that particular block. This plugin is very handy for those who want to "modularize their information into blocks". At this moment, all blocks are arranged in horizontal form.

Compability

tapShow.js container and blocks layout are developed using CSS3 Flexbox. Thus, tapShow.js has no issue support mostly all modern browser today (eg: Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari). However, if you are unsure of what version of browser you're using, you can check the site here, it provides the full list of browser supporting flexbox.

Structure

The structure of tapShow.js consists of Container, Block(s), Outer-Content and Inner-Content: tapShow.js Structure

  • Container: is the home layout that holds all block(s) together. It is built with CSS3 flexbox. Thus it can give flexible arrangement to the block(s) that reside within.
  • Block(s): a box that holds two side of information. First side is called Outer-Content and the other, Inner-Content.
  • Outer-Content: first side of information that visible to users initially. It will disappear, once user tap/click it. In order to make it visible again, it needs to wait till user close the box.
  • Inner-Content: second side of information that invisible to users initially. It will appear when user tap/click the box that it resides.

Installation

tapShow.js is independent from other plugins. You just need to include the javascript file into your project:

<script type="text/javascript" src="tapShow.js"></script>

Optionally, you can install tapShow.js with npm, bower, or yarn if you prefer:

# npm
$ npm install tapshow.js

# bower
$ bower install tapshow.js

# with yarn
$ yarn install tapshow.js

Set HTML

The markup for tapShow.js is very simple. You can include the default class for getting started. The markup as below:

<div class="tpContainer">
    <div class="block">
        <div class="outer-content">
            <p>
                Outer Content will appear initially. This will disappear when you tap it.
            </p>
        </div>

        <div class="inner-content">
            <p>
                Your inner content here! This will appear when you tap the block.
            </p>
        </div>
    </div>
</div>

Init the plugin

tapShow({
    target: '.tpContainer'
});

That's it! Then the above method will give you the default layout of tapShow.js block.
