Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

React SymbolKit Icons

SymbolKit, an open-source iconography library consisting of 1,300+ SVG icons.

symbolkit-react is an open source package that exports these icons as React.js components that can be used in all of your React projects.

Installation

yarn add symbolkit-react

or

npm i symbolkit-react

Usage

import React from 'react';
import { SymbolKit } from 'symbolkit-react';

const App = () => {
  return <SymbolKit />
};

export default App;

Icons can take any standard SVG properties as optional props, e.g.

<SymbolKit color="red" height={36} width={36} />

Default values for the most common props are given below:

| Prop name | Default value | |-------------|----------------| | color | "currentColor" | | width | "1.5em" | | height | "1.5em" | | strokeWidth | 1.5 |

SymbolKitProvider

Tired of specifying the same props for every single icon, every time you use them? So were we. Use SymbolKitProvider to set the default icon props for everything inside SymbolKitProvider.

import { SymbolKitProvider, Check } from 'symbolkit-react'

return (
  <SymbolKitProvider
    iconProps={{
      color: '#AAAAAA',
      strokeWidth: 1,
      width: '1em',
      height: '1em',
    }}
  >
    <SomeOtherContainer>
      <Check />
    </SomeOtherContainer>
  </SymbolKitProvider>
)

Icon names

For the most part, the React components are named as PascalCase variations of their reference names (i.e. add-circle-outline becomes AddCircleOutline). However, some names have been altered slightly either because they start with numerical digits, which would lead to invalid React component names, or because they are organisations which use PascalCase in their brand names, such as GitHub. The altered names are as follows:

| SymbolKit Name | React Component | |------------------|-----------------| | 1st-medal | Medal1St | | 4k-display | Display4K | | 4x4-cell | Cell4X4 | | 360-view | View360 | | github | GitHub | | github-outline | GitHubOutline | | gitlab-full | GitLabFull | | linkedin | LinkedIn | | tiktok | TikTok | | youtube | YouTube |
