Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Svelte-Autosize-Input

A flexible input component for Svelte that automatically adjusts its width to fit the current content.

Live demo | Github Repo

Installation

npm i svelte-autosize-input

Usage

The component wraps an <input> field to dynamically adjusts its width based on its content.

Here’s how you can use it in your Svelte or SvelteKit app:

<script>
  import AutosizeInput from 'svelte-autosize-input';
  let value = '';
</script>

<AutosizeInput bind:value />

Styling

The component is designed to be headless, meaning it does not enforce any specific styles on its own.

You can customize the appearance of the component by passing your own classes via the class prop:

<AutosizeInput
  class="rounded border border-slate-300 bg-white px-2 py-1.5 font-medium text-gray-900 focus:border-blue-500 focus:ring-blue-500" />

Props

value

The current value of the input. This should be bound to a variable to allow two-way data binding.

<script>
  let value = '';
</script>

<AutosizeInput bind:value />

type

Input type

<script>
  let value = 12;
</script>

<AutosizeInput bind:value type="number" />

placeholder

Optional placeholder text for the input

<script>
  let value = '';
</script>

<AutosizeInput bind:value placeholder="Your name" />

placeholderIsMinWidth

If true, the placeholder width will be used as the minimum width of the input.

<script>
  let value = '';
</script>

<AutosizeInput bind:value placeholder="Your name" placeholderIsMinWidth />

minWidth

The minimum width of the input in pixels.

<script>
  let value = '';
</script>

<AutosizeInput bind:value minWidth={300} />

maxWidth

The maximum width of the input in pixels.

<script>
  let value = '';
</script>

<AutosizeInput bind:value maxWidth={500} />

Methods

updateInputWidth()

Adjusts the width of the input field based on the content length and the specified placeholder. This method is called whenever there is a need to recalculate the input field's width, such as when the input value changes or the component is initially rendered, but it can be called outside as well, for example on focus() event.

<script>
  let value = '';
  let element;

  const updateInputWidthOnFocus = () => {
    element?.updateInputWidth();
  };
</script>

<AutosizeInput bind:value bind:this={el} on:focus={updateInputWidthOnFocus} />

copyInputStyles()

Copies specific CSS styles from the input field to the placeholder and content sizer elements. This method might be used after the styles change to apply changed styles to the sizer element.

<script>
  let value = '';
  let element;

  const copyInputStylesOnFocus = () => {
    element?.updateInputWidth();
  };
</script>

<AutosizeInput bind:value bind:this={el} on:focus={copyInputStylesOnFocus} />
