Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

SSE Tailwind CSS Generator Plugin

A versatile plugin that integrates with both Webpack and Rollup to generate a Tailwind CSS file based on your configuration and specified content files. This plugin simplifies the process of incorporating Tailwind CSS into your build workflow.

Features

  • Multi-Build Tool Support: Works seamlessly with both Webpack and Rollup.
  • Automatic CSS Generation: Generates a Tailwind CSS file based on your configuration.
  • Custom Configuration: Supports custom content files and Tailwind settings.
  • Minification: Optionally minifies the output CSS file.
  • Plugin Support: Easily extendable with Tailwind CSS plugins.

Installation

To install the plugin, run the following command:

npm install --save-dev sse-tail-css

Usage

You can skip the first step.

Webpack

  1. Create a Tailwind CSS configuration file (e.g., tailwind.config.js) in your project root:
module.exports = {
  content: ["./src/**/*.{html,js,jsx,ts,tsx}"],
  theme: {
    extend: {
      colors: {
        customColor: "#1c1c1e",
      },
    },
  },
  plugins: [require("@tailwindcss/forms"), require("@tailwindcss/typography")],
};
  1. Update your Webpack configuration (e.g., webpack.config.js) to include the plugin:
const path = require("path");
const TailwindCssGeneratorPlugin = require("sse-tail-css");

module.exports = {
  entry: "./src/index.js", // Your entry file
  output: {
    path: path.resolve(__dirname, "dist"),
    filename: "bundle.js",
  },
  plugins: [
    new TailwindCssGeneratorPlugin({
      content: ["./src/**/*.{html,js,jsx,ts,tsx}"],
      output: {
        dir: "dist",
        entryFileNames: "styles.css",
        minify: true,
      },
      extend: {
        colors: {
          customColor: "#1c1c1e",
        },
      },
      plugins: ["@tailwindcss/forms", "@tailwindcss/typography"],
    }),
  ],
  module: {
    rules: [
      {
        test: /\.js$/,
        exclude: /node_modules/,
        use: {
          loader: "babel-loader",
        },
      },
    ],
  },
};

Rollup

  1. Create a Tailwind CSS configuration file (e.g., tailwind.config.js) in your project root (same as above).

  2. Update your Rollup configuration (e.g., rollup.config.js) to include the plugin:

import resolve from "@rollup/plugin-node-resolve";
import commonjs from "@rollup/plugin-commonjs";
import { terser } from "rollup-plugin-terser";
import TailwindCssGeneratorPlugin from "sse-tail-css";

export default {
  input: "src/index.js", // Your entry file
  output: {
    file: "dist/bundle.js",
    format: "iife",
  },
  plugins: [
    resolve(),
    commonjs(),
    new TailwindCssGeneratorPlugin({
      content: ["./src/**/*.{html,js,jsx,ts,tsx}"],
      output: {
        dir: "dist",
        entryFileNames: "styles.css",
        minify: true,
      },
      extend: {
        colors: {
          customColor: "#1c1c1e",
        },
      },
      plugins: ["@tailwindcss/forms", "@tailwindcss/typography"],
    }),
    terser(), // Optional: Minify the output bundle
  ],
};
