Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

#SPRITE-SASS

Use sass with image sprite, and allow you to define the position of every sprite element.

A modular image sprite generator.

Mainly used for mobile develop.

Generates sprites and proper sass files

Change sprite position freely

##Install

Install with npm

npm install sprite-sass --save-dev

##Usage ###Programatic usage

var spriteSass = require('sprite-sass')
spriteSass(options, cb)

###With Gulp In future release ###With Grunt In future release

##Options

  • direction: The direction of sprite image(vertical|horizontal) [Default: vertical]
  • src: The glob string array of image sources that generates sprite image.
  • out: The path of directory to write sprite file to.
  • gap: Object that configure margin length in pixel about image, include vertical and horizontal.

##Example

example
  | - icons
       | - index
       | - list

index and list are image folds, and the options:

var options = {
  direction: 'horizontal',
  src: ["./**/*.png", "!./*.png", "!./public/**"],
  out: path.join(__dirname, 'public'),
  gap: {
    vertical: 100,
    horizontal: 100
  }
}

Then sprite-sass will generate following sprites and sass in ./public

example
  | - public
      | - img
          | - sprite-index.png
          | - sprite-list.png
      | - scss
          | - sprite-index.scss
          | - sprite-list.png

Also you can use npm run example to see. ##Sass file Use previous step result, such as sprite-index.scss:

@mixin sprite($sprite, $positionX: 0, $positionY: 0) {
  background-image: $spriteImage;
  @include sprite-position($sprite, $positionX, $positionY);
  background-repeat: no-repeat;
  background-size: 234px 9px;
}

Note that sprite need three parameters:

  • $sprite: The variable of sprite element
  • $positionX: If you want adjust the position of sprite element, pass number with pixel param just like change background-position-x based $sprite.
  • $positionY: If you want adjust the position of sprite element, pass pixel number just like change background-position-y based $sprite.

For example:

@import "./public/scss/icons/sprite-index";

.icon {
  @include sprite($arrow-down, -1px, -1px);
}

Now, The position of background image of .icon is left 1px and top 1px compare base status.
