Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Default Variant

✨ Features

  • Show Your current playing song anywhere in your Javascript app.
  • Show current lyrics as you hear it.
  • Multiple variants
  • Customisable.

Initial setup. (Only needed once)

  1. Go to Spotify Developer Dashboard. You may need to login. Click on Create App button.
  2. Fill information as you wish, just make sure your redirect URL is something which you can control. You will get 'Client Id' and 'Client Secret' from this step.
  3. Open a browser window and go to the following URL, replacing CLIENT_ID and REDIRECT_URI with your own values.
https://accounts.spotify.com/authorize?client_id=CLIENT_ID&response_type=code&redirect_uri=REDIRECT_URI&scope=user-read-playback-state%20user-read-recently-played
  1. If done properly, this should prompt you to Authorize the app using your Spotify account. Login to your spotify Account. You will notice the browser address bar replaced with (https://my-domain.com/callback?code=NApCCg..BkWtQ&state=34fFs29kd09). Note the value following "code=". This is your "Access Token" and you will need it in the next step.
  2. Take your Client ID and Secret ID and put them in the format "CliendID:SecretID" and Base64 encode them (I used https://www.base64encode.net/).
  3. Use your Base64 encoded Client ID:Secret ID, Access Token, and Redirect URI to run this cURL command.
curl -X POST -H "Authorization: Basic BASE64_ENCODED_CLIENTID_CLIENTSECRET" -H "Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded" -d "grant_type=authorization_code&code=AUTHORIZATION_CODE&redirect_uri=REDIRECT_URI" https://accounts.spotify.com/api/token
  1. If done properly, this will should give you your refresh token.
  2. Import SPotifyNow Component and pass client_id client_secret and refresh_token as props with their respective values.
