Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

SmartPrice

Average/aggregate price return from specified exchanges for smart contract cryptocurrencies

About

Uses the CCXT library to simplify API calls. Uses the average ticker price from each exchange if available, otherwise uses average of last ask and last bid.

Installation/Usage

smartprice can be cloned and ran from the source, or can be installed as an npm module. We describe the npm installation/usage below. First, install the package in your working directory like so:

npm install smartprice --save

Require and use smartprice in your project. There is currently only one method and one property right now. Typical usage would be to call the updatePrice function, which takes two parameters and returns an ES6 Promise. The two parameters are an array of currency pairs to update, and an optional array of exchanges to exclude. After the updatePrice function has been executed, the result of the resolved promise can be read, or the priceObj property can be read directly. Ex:

const sp = require('smartprice');

// update the price of ETH/USD crypto pair, and exclude the 'kraken' exchange from pricing
sp.updatePrice(['ETH/USD'], ['kraken']).then(result => {
  console.log(result);
});

console.log(sp.priceObj);

/* Example priceObj result:
{ 'ETH/USD':
  { bitstamp: 1147.6399999999999,
    gemini: 1145.175,
    dsx: 1098.901098901099,
    bitfinex: 1156.7,
    avgPrice: 1138.3, // average price rounded to two decimal places (ideal for fiat pairs)
    avgPricePrecise: 1138.30021978, // average price rounded to eight decimal places (common precision amongst cryptos)
    date: 2018-02-01T05:38:42.103Z
  }
}
*/

priceObj can be read repeatedly without out consequence, but calling updatePrice too often has the chance to trigger API rate-limiting by different exchanges.

Currently supported

Currently only looks up crypto pairs using Bitstamp, Kraken, Bitfinex, GDAX, Gemini, Binance, DSX, HuobiPro, CEX.IO, and Poloniex exchanges as price sources.
