Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

npm install simple-typing-effect

Syntax

typingEffect(
  arrayOfWords,
  wrapperId,
  options,
  forwardSlashSpeed,
  backwardSlashSpeed,
  infinite
);

Usage

To use simple-typing-effect, you need to import the package and call the typingEffect function with the required parameters.

import { typingEffect } from "simple-typing-effect";

const arrayOfWords = [
  "Hello World!",
  "This is the",
  "simple-typing-effect",
  "npm package",
];
const wrapperId = "typing-wrapper"; // id of the wrapper element in your HTML

// Customize options if needed (optional)
const options = {
  textColor: "black",
  cursorColor: "black",
  width: "2px",
  height: "1rem",
};

// Customize typing and deleting speeds (optional)
const forwardSlashSpeed = 118;
const backwardSlashSpeed = 65;

// Customize repetition (optional)
const infinite = true;

// Call the typingEffect function with the provided parameters (optional)
typingEffect(
  arrayOfWords,
  wrapperId,
  options,
  forwardSlashSpeed,
  backwardSlashSpeed,
  infinite
);

Parameters

The typingEffect function accepts the following parameters:

  • arrayOfWords (array): An array of words to be typed out.
  • wrapperId (string): The ID of the HTML element that will contain the typewriter effect.
  • options (object, optional): An object that specifies additional options for the typewriter effect. It can have the following properties:
  • textColor (string, default: "black"): The color of the typed text.
  • cursorColor (string, default: "white"): The color of the typing cursor.
  • width (string, default: "2px"): The width of the typing cursor.
  • height (string, default: "1rem"): The height of the typing cursor.
  • forwardSlashSpeed (number, default: 118): The speed of typing forward slash characters (in milliseconds).
  • backwardSlashSpeed (number, default: 65): The speed of typing backward slash characters (in milliseconds).
  • infinite (boolean, default: true): Determines whether the typing effect should repeat infinitely.

Example

Here's an example of how to use typingEffect:

In your index.html

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
  <head>
    <title>Typing Effect Example</title>
  </head>
  <body>
    <div id="typing-wrapper"></div>
    <script src="./index.js" type="module"></script>
  </body>
</html>

In your index.js

import { typingEffect } from "simple-typing-effect";

const arrayOfWords = ["Welcome to the", "simple-typing-effect", "npm package"];
const wrapperId = "typing-wrapper"; // id of the wrapper element in your HTML

// Customize options (optional)
const options = {
  textColor: "purple",
  cursorColor: "red",
  width: "3px",
  height: "1.5rem",
};

// Customize typing and deleting speeds (optional)
const forwardSlashSpeed = 150;
const backwardSlashSpeed = 80;

// Customize repetition (optional)
const infinite = false;

// Call the typingEffect function with the provided parameters
typingEffect(
  arrayOfWords,
  wrapperId,
  options,
  forwardSlashSpeed,
  backwardSlashSpeed,
  infinite
);

In this example, the typing effect will render the array of words one after the other with a purple text color and a red typing cursor. The cursor will have a width of 3 pixels and a height of 1.5 rem. The typing speed for adding characters will be 150 milliseconds, and the deleting speed will be 80 milliseconds.
