Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

sd-notify-lite

Rationale

sd-notify exists, but it links against the native systemd library. sd-notify-lite uses unix sockets directly. Reasons for using sd-notify-lite:

  • easy to include and test on MacOS and Linux, even without systemd installed
  • linking to things unnecessarily can be dangerous

Dependencies

Relies on unix-dgram module, which works on MacOS and Linux. Does not work on Windows.

Installation

npm install sd-notify-lite

Usage

sd-notify-lite relies on the NOTIFY_SOCKET and WATCHDOG_USEC environment variables, which are typically set by systemd prior to executing your process.

const sdNotify = require('sd-notify-lite');

sdNotify.notifyReady(); // process is fully initialized
sdNotify.startWatchdog(); // periodically ping
