Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

score.js

A small javascript module to add levels, checkpoints and badges to a linear score.

See the demo or read an introduction

Quick usage

var score = new Score();

// set score
score.set(123);

// increase score by 1
score.increment();

// increase score by 10
score.increment(10);

// decrease score by 1
score.decrement();

// get scorecard
score.scorecard();

scorecard returns...

{
	score:123						// current total score
	title:"Gorilla",				// current title
	quote:"You're a true soldier"	// current quote
	level:2,						// current level
	levelscore:23,					// current level score
	leveltotal:200,					// current level total
	levelprogress:11.51, 			// percentage %
	totalprogress:34.45, 			// percentage %
	levelup: false, // did we just level up?
	totallevels:10 					// total levels
	prestige:0 // prestige level see below
}

lib/score.js comes with 10 levels as default. lib/score-basic.js comes with none. The default levels can be replaced with custom levels using the setup below.

Setup

var score = new Score(
	{
		persistant:true				// uses localStorage -  default: true
		callback:function(){...}	// callback when levelling up
		levels: 					// custom levels
		[
			{
				"checkmark": 0,
				"status": "noob",
				"quote": "You're just a little newbie"
			},
			{
				"checkmark": 500,
				"status": "champion",
				"quote": "You're halfway there"
			},
			{
				"checkmark": 1000,
				"status": "legend",
				"quote": "You made it!"
			}
		]
	}
);

Multipliers

Handy when you want to give your user double or triple points for a given duration.

// multiply all increments and decrements by 2 from now on
score.multiplier(2);

// multiply all increments and decrements by 3 for the next 5 seconds
score.multiplier(3, 5000);

// multiply all increments and decrements by 4 for the next 5 seconds
// with a callback
score.multiplier(4, 5000, function(){ ... });

Prestige levels

To provide an infinite score, you can allow your players to reset their score after completing all levels.

score.prestige();

This resets the score to 0 and increments scorecard.prestige. This only works if scorecard.totalprogress is 100%.
