Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

universalCombineLatest generator function for rxjs

rxjs-universal-combine-latest

An rxjs generator similar to combineLatest that accepts any object as an input.

It combines all observables found in the object and generates an observable of objects of the same structure.

It is very useful to generate complex observables by combining multiple sources while keeping readability and avoiding nesting combineLatest operators

How to install

npm install rxjs-universal-combine-latest

Examples

import { of } from 'rxjs';
import { universalCombineLatest } from 'rxjs-universal-combine-latest';

// works with objects
const first$ = universalCombineLatest({ name: of('Krauss'), age: of(52) });
// will emit :
// { name: 'Krauss', age: 52 }

// still works with arrays
const middle$ = universalCombineLatest([ of('Eva'), of('Rudolf') ]);
// will emit :
// ['Eva', 'Rudolf']

// all values in the source object do not have to be observables !
const last$ = universalCombineLatest({ name: of('Rosa'), age: 35 });
// will emit :
// { name: 'Rosa', age: 35 }

// objects and arrays can be deeply nested
const family$ = universalCombineLatest(
    {
        name: of('Kinzo'),
        age: 'old',
        children: [
            {
                name: 'Kraus'
            },
            {
                name: of('Eva')
            }
        ]
    }
);
// will emit :
// {
//      name: 'Kinzo',
//      age: 'old',
//      children: [
//          {
//              name: 'Kraus'
//          },
//          {
//              name: 'Eva'
//          }
//      ]
// }

// In a similar way to combineLatest, it will emit every time an observable emits after they all have emited at least once
const aging$ = universalCombineLatest({ name: of('Rosa'), age: interval(1000).pipe(map(i => 35 + i)) });
// will emit :
// after 1s: { name: 'Rosa', age: 35 }
// after 2s: { name: 'Rosa', age: 36 }
// after 3s: { name: 'Rosa', age: 37 }
// ...

// Empty array of objects will emit imediately
const empty$ = universalCombineLatest([]);
// will emit :
// []
// and complete imediately
const emptyObj$ = universalCombineLatest({});
// will emit :
// {}
// and complete imediately

// simple values generates observables that complete imediately
const singleValue$ = universalCombineLatest('Magical Gohda chef');
// will emit :
// 'Magical Gohda chef'
// and complete imediately

// single observables are not affected and returned as is
const beatoriche$ = universalCombineLatest(of('Beatrice'));
// will emit :
// 'Beatrice'
// and complete imediately because the source observables behaves like this
