Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

✦ Introduction

The Runescan library aims to simplify conditional logic, allowing developers to avoid excessive if-else structures and make the code more readable and expressive.

✦ Documentation

The documentation is available in various versions and languages. Choose the version and language that suits you best:

✦ Installation

Installing the library is straightforward.

npm i runescan

Or use yarn if you prefer.

yarn add runescan

✦ Main Methods

Let's talk a bit about the main methods and what each one does.

match():

Method used to initialize a structure to perform checks on a value. It expects a value that can be of type string, number, bool.

  // importing the library
  import {match} from "runescan";

  // using the match method
  match(value)

with():

The with() method is used to perform checks and execute actions based on the received value. It expects two arguments:

expected:

The value with which you want to compare the initial value provided to the match() method. It can be a string, number, boolean, etc...

callback:

A function to be executed if there is a match between the initial value and the expected value. This function can contain the desired logic to handle the match.

outherWise():

The outherWise method, as the name suggests, is a outherWise method that will be executed if there is no match. It expects only one argument.

callback:

A function to be executed if there is no match between the initial value and the expected values

✦ Example of Use

Problem: Role-Based User Authentication

Introduction:

Imagine a complex user authentication system, where different users have access to specific resources based on their roles. For example, a user can be an administrator, a moderator, or a standard user, each with different permissions.

Solution using Runescan:

import { match } from "runescan";

// Example user and their role
const user = {
   name: "John",
   role: "admin", // Can be "admin", "moderator", or "user"
};

// Using Runescan to simplify conditional logic

const accessLevel = match(user.role)
.with("admin", () => "Full access granted")
.with("moderator", () => "Moderate access granted")
.with("user", () => "Limited access granted")
.outherWise(() => "User role not recognized");

// Result
console.log(accessLevel);
