Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

rocket-preset-markdown-directives

Custom markdown fenced code block directives for Rocket

Configuration

Add the preset to your rocket.config.js, and configure it with a collections object. collections is a record of collection names to tab types. For example, if you want code tabs which switch between install commands for npm, yarn, and pnpm, add the following:

import { mdDirectives } from 'rocket-preset-markdown-directives';

export default {
  presets: [
    mdDirectives({
      directives: {
        // global CSS
        global: (_, { node }) => ({ tagName: 'style', textContent: node.value }),
        // wrap in `<code-copy>`
        copy: () => ({ tagName: 'code-copy' }),
        // wrap in `<my-el data-id="${id}">`
        mine: ([id]) => ({ tagName: 'my-el', attributes: { 'data-id': id } }),
      }
    }),
  ]
}

Usage

Directives have the form

```{lang} {directive} {...args}
  1. lang is the language used to syntax-highlight the code block
  2. directive is the command specified in the directives config object.
  3. ...args is an array of strings, which are the space-separated arguments to the directive
The functions which are the values of the config object take two arguments
  1. The array of args
  2. An object containing { node, parent, page, rocketConfig }, which are either AST nodes (node and parent or config values
An example page using the above config:
# Example Page
```css global
/**
 * This code does not appear on the page,
 * Rather it is applied to the document
 */
h1 {
  font-style: italic;
}
```
Try this snippet in your own project:
```js copy
customElements.define('x-l', class XElement extends HTMLElement { });
```
```html mine something-something
<something-something></something-something>
<p>
  You define how `<my-el>` works and load in onto this page,
  and what it does with the `data-id="something-something"` attribute.
</p>
```
Tip
This preset works well with eleventy-plugin-add-web-component-definitions. Use it with rocket like so:
import addWebComponentDefinitions from 'eleventy-plugin-add-web-component-definitions';
import { mdDirectives } from 'rocket-preset-markdown-directives';
export default {
  presets: [
    mdDirectives({ directives: {/*...*/} }),
  ],
  setupEleventyPlugins: [
    addPlugin({
      name: 'auto-import-custom-elements',
      plugin: addWebComponentDefinitions,
      location: 'bottom',
      options: {
        quiet: true,
        singleScript: true,
      },
    }),
    adjustPluginOptions('auto-import-custom-elements', options => ({
      ...options,
      specifiers: {
        ...options.specifiers,
        'my-el': '/path/to/my-el.js',
      },
    })),
  ],
}
