Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

rn-fetch-blog-repair

This is a modified version of the original rn-fetch-blob library, named rn-fetch-blog-repair, which includes a fix for compatibility with Android SDK 34 and above.

About

rn-fetch-blog-repair is a React Native library used for network requests (like fetch) that also supports file system access and handling large binary files like images and videos.

This version was created to address an issue in the original rn-fetch-blob related to registering receivers for the DownloadManager.ACTION_DOWNLOAD_COMPLETE intent in Android SDK 34 and higher.

Bug Description

In Android SDK 34, Google introduced stricter rules regarding the registration of broadcast receivers. When registering a receiver dynamically, either Context.RECEIVER_EXPORTED or Context.RECEIVER_NOT_EXPORTED must be specified if the receiver is not exclusively for system broadcasts. Failing to do so will result in the following error: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: One of RECEIVER_EXPORTED or RECEIVER_NOT_EXPORTED should be specified when a receiver isn't being registered exclusively for system broadcasts. The original rn-fetch-blob library did not account for this requirement, which caused apps targeting Android SDK 34 or higher to crash when registering the receiver for the DownloadManager.ACTION_DOWNLOAD_COMPLETE intent.

Changes from the Original Library

In the original rn-fetch-blob library, the following line:

// appCtx.registerReceiver(this, new
// IntentFilter(DownloadManager.ACTION_DOWNLOAD_COMPLETE));
if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= 34 && appCtx.getApplicationInfo().targetSdkVersion >= 34) {
    appCtx.registerReceiver(this, new IntentFilter(DownloadManager.ACTION_DOWNLOAD_COMPLETE),
            Context.RECEIVER_EXPORTED);
} else {
    appCtx.registerReceiver(this, new IntentFilter(DownloadManager.ACTION_DOWNLOAD_COMPLETE));
}

Special Thanks

A special thanks to rada for identifying and helping to fix the issue with broadcast receiver registration in Android SDK 34. Your contribution has been invaluable to this project!
