Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

redux-store-filler

Installation

redux-store-filler is available on npm.

$ npm install redux-store-filler --save-dev

Use it with standard Redux store. For more information, consult the Redux documentation.

Description

redux-store-filler allows you to forget about retrieving data via API at all. You just need to write config and receive data - asynchronously and entirely.

redux-store-filler will retrieve data via API, normalize it, put it in Redux store and follow foreign keys if necessary. If data is already present in store, it will call API if only it's outdated.

Simple example of usage

  1. Add config of your entities schema - each object should contain foreign keys to follow:

    const schema = {
        users: {},
        posts: {
            author: "users"
        }
    };
  2. Add config of your API.

    const api = {
        users: {
            endpoint: "api/v1/users/",
            types: ['USERS_GET', 'USERS_SUCCESS', 'USERS_FAILURE'],
        },
        posts: {
            endpoint: "api/v1/posts/",
            types: ['POSTS_GET', 'POSTS_SUCCESS', 'POSTS_FAILURE'],
        }
    };
  3. Add lifetime limits of your entities in milliseconds.

    const lifetime = {
        users: 20000,
        posts: 10000
    };
  4. Add it to global config.

    const config = {
        schema,
        api,
        lifetime
    };
  5. Create reducers, action creator and middleware using this config.

    import {config} from './config';
    import {configureMiddleware, configureActionCreator} from 'redux-store-filler';
    import {configureEntitiesReducer, configureTimestampReducer} from 'redux-store-filler';

    const entitiesReducer = configureEntitiesReducer(config);
    const timestampReducer = configureTimestampReducer(config);
    const middleware = configureMiddleware(config);
    const get = configureActionCreator(config);
  6. Use it in your application. In React, for example, you put middleware and reducers in place and bind action creator. Then you can call it and get data, for example, in your React component:

    componentDidMount = () => {
       this.props.get("users", {id: [111, 122, 4]})
    }
