Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Rebase

What is this?

Rebase helps you refactor urls in files. Let it be a script src attribute or a url() in a css rule. Tell it what scope you want the replace to happen. It is essentially String.replace() smarty-pants.

Scopes

script

Matches script tags, and their sources.

  <script type="text/javascript" src="/static/script/test.js"></script>

link

Matches stylesheet links and their href attribute's value.

  <link rel="stylesheet" href="/static/style/css.css"/>

a

Matches html link tags and their href attribute's value.

  <a href="..."></a>

img

Matches image elements and their source value.

  <img src="..." alt="test"/>

url

Matches url() resource links in css.

#test-1{
  background: url("...");
}

Install

npm install rebase --save-dev

Usage

var rebase = require("../rebase")
var contents = ""
var scopes = {}
var rebasedContents = rebase(contents, scopes)

Gulp task

var gulp = require("gulp")
var rebase = require("./tasks/gulp-rebase")

gulp.task("rebase-html", function(  ){
  gulp.src("test/src/*.html")
    .pipe(rebase({
      url: {
        "/?img": "/static/images",
        "/?font": "/static/fonts"
      },
      a: {
        "/?img": "/static/images"
      },
      img: {
        "/?img": "/static/images"
      },
      link: {
        "/?css": "/static/style"
      },
      script: {
        "/?js": "/static/script"
      }
    }))
    .pipe(gulp.dest("test/dest/"))
})

gulp.task("default", ["rebase-html"])

Grunt task

grunt.loadNpmTasks('grunt-rebase');

Usage

In the grunt task, define a scope object on the file object. The keys will be converted to a RegExp pattern, and matched against the source files the task runs on. The values of the scope's properties will be replace value of "".replace(pattern, replacement).

grunt.initConfig({
  rebase: {
    noscope: {
      expand: true,
      cwd: "test/src/css/",
      src: "*.css",
      dest: "test/dest/static/style/"
    },
    scoped: {
      // global options
      options: {
        // filter unreferenced files
        filter: true,
        // prepend this base to every reference
        base: "test/src/"
      },
      files: [{
        expand: true,
        cwd: "test/src/css/",
        src: "*.css",
        dest: "test/dest/static/style/",
        // match glob pattern and add them to references
        reference: "test/src/css/*.css",
        scopes: {
          url: {
            "/?img": "/static/images",
            "/?font": "/static/fonts"
          }
        }
      }, {
        expand: true,
        cwd: "test/src/",
        src: "*.html",
        dest: "test/dest/",
        // add processed files to references
        reference: true,
        scopes: {
          url: {
            "/?img": "/static/images",
            "/?font": "/static/fonts"
          },
          a: {
            "/?img": "/static/images"
          },
          img: {
            "/?img": "/static/images"
          },
          link: {
            "/?css": "/static/style"
          },
          script: {
            "/?js": "/static/script"
          }
        }
      }, {
        expand: true,
        cwd: "test/src/img/",
        src: "*.*",
        dest: "test/dest/static/images/"
      }, {
        expand: true,
        cwd: "test/src/js/",
        src: "*.*",
        dest: "test/dest/static/script/"
      }]
    }
  }
})
