Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

React Page Cache

cache react pages.

Introduction

SPA is good and bad. As I encountered, one shortage is the easy-losing page context: you go to a new page, and click back button on mobile or browser, biting your apple and expecting the previous page, and ... W**??? The page is reloading and the infinite-scroll list you have dragged for a year is just gone!!! Ok, let's add some data cache mechanism to this page, and soon you will punch your monitor because this work is not easy to do, and there are more and more states and pages your want to enhance. So what's the key? Why Bob can buy everything in anytime without going to ask his mom? Well, because he just caches the cash in his pocket (and he is rich)! So, I am rich of memories with 4GB on my mobile phone and 8GB on my computer, don't stop me caching 100,000,000 pages!

Usage

Install this package

npm i --save react-page-cache

Create a cache manager and mount the renderer

import createCacheManager from 'react-page-cache';

const manager = createCacheManager();
ReactDOM.render(
    manager.renderer,
    document.getElementById('root')
);

Activate page as you need

 manager.activatePage({
    id: 'unique page id',
    args: {...}, // whatever page args, optional
    page: (args, cacheState)=><MyTestPage {...}/>, // how to build the page by the args
    cacheTime: 10 * 60 * 1000 // cache time after this page is inactivated, if omitted, it will equal to global options
    scrollTop: ... // if undefined, it will recover to the previous scroll position; if null, remain current position; if number, then scroll to it
})

If you really need, you can inactivate all pages

manager.inactivePages()

Sometimes you may want ot force to expire or remove a cached page

manager.removePage(id)

You can set global options

manager.GlobalOptions.cacheTime = 5 * 60 * 1000;
manager.GlobalOptions.cacheLimit = 5;
