Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

react-lock-scroll

v0.1.8

Published

A react hook for locking scroll on mount or on toggle

Readme

This project was bootstrapped with Create React Library.

Install

npm i react-lock-scroll

es6 import lockScroll from "react-lock-scroll;"

es5 const lockScroll = require("react-lock-scroll");

Usage

default

By default, react-lock-scroll will lock the document body when the component where it is called is mounted, and unlock the document body when that component is dismounted.

ex:

export default (props) => {
  lockScroll();
  return (
    <div>I lock the bodys scroll when mounted</div>

First argument: toggle (default=true)

lockScroll can also be passed a boolean state value, and will lock the screen on true and unlock it on false.

ex:

export default (props) => {
  [toggle, setToggle] = useState(false);
  lockScroll(toggle)
  return <button onClick={()=>setToggle(!toggle}>Lock Scrolling</button>
}

Second argument: target (default=false)

LockScroll can be passed the ref of a target div to lock scrolling on. This also supports passing of a boolean state value for a toggle, however if you simply want it to lock on mount/dismount, you can just pass it a ref to the div that has overflow: scroll set. Note that this will likely require the use of forwardRef to construct this component if the DOM node is outside of the component where lockScroll is called.

ex.

export default (props) => {
  const ref = useRef();
  const [lock, setLock] = useState(false)
  lockScroll(lock, ref);

  return (
    <div className="divThatScrolls" ref={ref}>
      <div>
        <button onClick={() => setLock(!lock)}>Lock</button>
      </div>
    </div>
  )
};

last argument: styles (default=false)

include a valid style object with styles you want to be applied to the locked div when it's locked. Useful for adjusting for scroll bars.

export default (props) => {
  lockScroll({margin: "15px"});

  return (
    <div>
      when mounted, I lock and add 15px of margin to the body
    </div>
  )
};
