Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

react-custom-log

react-custom-log is a lightweight npm package for custom logging in React applications. It provides color-coded logging functions and a utility for pretty-printing JSON responses.

Installation

You can install the package via npm:

npm install react-custom-log

or via Yarn:

yarn add react-custom-log

Usage

Import the CustomLog object into your React component or JavaScript file:

import CustomLog from "react-custom-log";

function App() {
  return <Component />;
}

Then, use the provided methods to log messages with different colors and formats.

Methods

CustomLog.Default(message)

Logs a default message without any color.

CustomLog.Default("This is a default log message.");

CustomLog.Info(message)

Logs an informational message in blue.

CustomLog.Info("This is an info message.");

CustomLog.Error(message)

Logs an error message in red.

CustomLog.Error("This is an error message.");

CustomLog.Success(message)

Logs a success message in green.

CustomLog.Success("This is a success message.");

CustomLog.Warn(message)

Logs a warning message in orange.

CustomLog.Warn("This is a warning message.");

CustomLog.Processing(message)

Logs a processing message in purple.

CustomLog.Processing("This is a processing message.");

CustomLog.Custom(message, color)

Logs with any color.

CustomLog.Custom("You can set any color", "#f3f3f3");

CustomLog.PrettyJSON(json)

Logs a pretty-printed JSON object. The color of the log depends on the status or code fields in the JSON.

  • Red for error responses
  • Green for success responses
const jsonResponse = { status: "success", data: { key: "value" } };
CustomLog.PrettyJSON(jsonResponse);

Here’s a full example of how to use the CustomLog methods in a React component:

import React from "react";
import CustomLog from "react-custom-log";

const App = () => {
  CustomLog.Info("Info message");
  CustomLog.Error("Error message");
  CustomLog.Success("Success message");
  CustomLog.Warn("Warning message");
  CustomLog.Processing("Processing message");
  CustomLog.Custom("Custom Log", "#f3f3f3");

  const jsonResponse = { status: "error", message: "Something went wrong!" };
  CustomLog.PrettyJSON(jsonResponse);

  return <div>Check the console for log messages</div>;
};

export default App;
