Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Quake Live dedicated server API

This package provides comfortable access to the rcon and stats API of a Quake Live dedicated server.

Install

npm install ql-api

Overview

The package offers object-oriented access to the rcon and stats API and represents the stats events as class instances.

Rcon

Connecting to the rcon API is as simple as creating an instance of Rcon and calling connect() on it.

import { Rcon } from 'ql-api'

let rcon = new Rcon('127.0.0.1:28960', 'some_name', 'password')
rcon.connect()

Stats

Connecting to the stats API is as simple as creating an instance of Stats and calling connect() on it.

import { Stats } from 'ql-api'

let stats = new Stats('127.0.0.1:27960', 'password')
stats.connect()

To receive Quake Live stats events register listeners.

stats.onMatchReport((event: MatchReportEvent) => { ... })
stats.onMatchStarted((event: MatchStartedEvent) => { ... })
stats.onPlayerConnect((event: PlayerConnectEvent) => { ... })
stats.onPlayerDeath((event: PlayerDeathEvent) => { ... })
stats.onPlayerDisconnect((event: PlayerDisconnectEvent) => { ... })
stats.onPlayerKill((event: PlayerKillEvent) => { ... })
stats.onPlayerMedal((event: PlayerMedalEvent) => { ... })
stats.onPlayerStats((event: PlayerStatsEvent) => { ... })
stats.onPlayerSwitchTeam((event: PlayerSwitchTeamEvent) => { ... })
stats.onRoundOver((event: RoundOverEvent) => { ... })

The raw JSON data is converted into instances of classes each of them dedicated to one event. A property which can have one of a set of predefined values is realized through an enum. Overall they form a complete documentation of the event data.

If you still have the need to access the raw Quake Live event data, you can register an event handler with onRawQlEvent.

stats.onRawQlEvent((event: any) => { ... })

ZMQ specifics

The connect() method will return instantly and perform its actions in the background. To hook into specific steps you can register event listeners. Since these are based on the Node EventEmitter class, you can add as many listeners per event as you like.

rcon.onConnected((eventId, address, error) => { ... })
rcon.onConnectDelayed((eventId, address, error) => { ... })
rcon.onConnectRetried((eventId, address, error) => { ... })

If a connection was not successful, ZMQ will retry waiting a certain amount of time between to attempts.
