Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

pwconf-merge

A cli tool that merge config slices with PipeWire config files.

Install

$ # Yarn
$ yarn global add pwconf-merge
$ # or NPM
$ npm install -g pwconf-merge

For Yarn, you might also need to add $HOME/.yarn/bin to $PATH.

Usage

Usage: pwconf-merge [options]

Options:
  -V, --version output the version number
  -s, --slice-dir <paths...> path to config slice dir (default: ["/etc/pwconf-merge","/home/<user>/.config/pwconf-merge"])
  -d, --data-dir <path> path to pipewire config data dir (default: "/usr/share/pipewire")
  -c, --conf-dir <path> path to pipewire config dir (default: "/home/<user>/.config/pipewire")
  -h, --help display help for command

By default, pwconf-merge read config slices from /etc/pwconf-merge and $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/pwconf-merge, merging with pipewire configs in /usr/share/pipewire, then write configs merged into $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/pipewire (/etc/pipewire if running in root, whose uid is 0) from where pipewire read configs.

See sample for example config slices.

By default, pwconf-merge set/override property value if merging objects and append all array items into array to be merged if merging arrays. You can use javascript to override the default merging behavior.

For example, to use module libpipewire-module-rt instead of libpipewire-module-rtkit, the default in pipewire.conf, create a config slice in <slice-dir>/pipewire.conf.d/use-module-rt.js (change pipewire.conf.d to conf.d to match all configs) with content below.

// newPWConf is a callback method which accept a merging function
newPWConf(
  // our custom merger
  // `config`: a javascript object originally read `/usr/share/pipewire`, might already be modified by other config slices
  // `name`: the config path relative to `/usr/share/pipewire`
  function (config, name) {
    // validate the value of `context.modules`
    if (Array.isArray(config['context.modules'])) {
      // iterate array items in `context.modules`
      for (const module of config['context.modules']) {
        // module is a reference to this nested object
        if (module.name === 'libpipewire-module-rtkit') {
          module.name = 'libpipewire-module-rt'
          // return our modified config
          return config
        }
      }
    }
    // nothing merges if falsy value is returned
  }
)
