Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

prerender-clear-local-storage

#Summary Plugin for Prerender that clears PhantomJS's local storage before each request

npm install prerender-clear-local-storage

#Getting started ##Set up a custom prerender server Follow the instructions to create a custom prerender server

Create a custom prerender server

##Require the plugin

var clearLocalStoragePlugin = require('prerender-clear-local-storage');

##Use the plugin

server.use(clearLocalStoragePlugin(server));

##Configuration This plugin uses the env variable PHANTOM_LOCAL_STORAGE_PATH to determine what localstorage files to clear.

This defaults to ./LocalStorage/.localstorage* which unfortunately is useless since I cannot get PhantomJS's "--local-storage-path" to work.

You will need to set this to be the location of the PhantomJS .localstorage files on your machine. See Phantom Local Storage Locations for some suggestions.

Additionally this variable is used as a glob path so you will need to provide the wildcard of your choice. I recommend using *.localstorage so that only .localstorage files are removed.

e.g.

PHANTOM_LOCAL_STORAGE_PATH = /Users/user.name//Library/Application Support/Ofi Labs/PhantomJS/*.localstorage

You can set this variable via the commandline as shown below or if you use grunt checkout grunt-env.

PHANTOM_LOCAL_STORAGE_PATH=/path/to/phantom/localstorage/*.localstorage node server.js

##Phantom Local Storage Locations ###OSX

/Users/user.name//Library/Application Support/Ofi Labs/PhantomJS/

###Windows

C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Ofi Labs\PhantomJS

#Server Code example (server.js)

var prerender = require('prerender');
var clearLocalStoragePlugin = require('prerender-clear-local-storage');

var server = prerender({
  workers: process.env.PHANTOM_CLUSTER_NUM_WORKERS || 1,
  iterations: process.env.PHANTOM_WORKER_ITERATIONS || 10,
  phantomBasePort: process.env.PHANTOM_CLUSTER_BASE_PORT || 12300,
  messageTimeout: process.env.PHANTOM_CLUSTER_MESSAGE_TIMEOUT,
});

server.use(prerender.blacklist());
server.use(prerender.removeScriptTags());
server.use(prerender.httpHeaders());
server.use(clearLocalStoragePlugin(server));

server.start();
