Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

PostCSS Sequence

NPM Version Linux Build Status Windows Build Status Gitter Chat

A PostCSS plugin for managing consistent scale, proportion and vertical rhythm using custom units based on numerical sequences.

Usage

Create custom units by defining an abbreviation and the pattern to generate the nth index from a numerical sequence.

units: [
    {
        abbr: 'gu',
        pattern: 'n * 4',
    }
]

Example:

div {
    padding: 4gu;
}

Outputs:

div {
    padding: 16px;
}

Setup

npm install postcss-sequence --save-dev

Define one or more units by passing them to the plugin as options:

units: [
    {
        abbr: 'gu',
        pattern: 'n * 4',
    }
]

Options

| Key | Description | |-----|-------------| | abbr | A string with the abbreviation of the name for your unit. For more complex units you can use a number identifier like so <g> where g is the variable used in your pattern. If you require something unique you can also use a regex. | | position| Position of where the abbreviation is placed. To the end by default. Choose from 'start', 'middle' or 'end'. | | pattern | Pattern used to generate the n index from a numerical sequence. If using a regex or middle position affix you can use lowercase letters starting from a to reference groups in in the order they were captured. See example below. | | output | Optional,'px' used by default. |

Examples

Grid units

A grid unit based on a grid of 4px

units: [
    {
        abbr: 'gu',
        pattern: 'n * 4',
    }
]

Example:

div {
	padding: 4gu;
	margin: 4gu 2gu;
}

Outputs:

div {
	padding: 16px;
	margin: 16px 8px;
}

Font scale

Setting the font based on a scale using golden ratio.

units: [
    {
        abbr: 'x',
        pattern: 'round (16 * 1.618 ^ n) / 16',
        output: 'rem'
    }
]

Example:

h1 {
	font-size: 4x;
}
h2 {
	font-size: 3x;
}
h3 {
	font-size: 2x;
}

Output:

h1 {
	font-size: 6.875rem;
}
h2 {
	font-size: 4.25rem;
