Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

polka-bearer-token

Bearer token middleware for Polka. Ported from express-bearer-token.

Tested with Polka@next.

Install

npm install polka-bearer-token
yarn add polka-bearer-token
pnpm add polka-bearer-token

Usage

import polka from "polka";
import bearerToken from "polka-bearer-token";

const app = polka()
  .use(bearerToken())
  .use((req, res, next) => {
    console.log(req.token);
    next();
  })
  .listen(8000);

Per RFC6750 this module will attempt to extract a bearer token from a request from these locations:

  • The key access_token in the request body.
  • The key access_token in the request params.
  • The value from the header Authorization: Bearer <token>.
  • (Optional) Get a token from cookies header with key access_token.

If a token is found, it will be stored on req.token. If one has been provided in more than one location, this will abort the request immediately by sending code 400 (per RFC6750).

API

bearerToken(options?): Polka.Middleware

options

Type: object

For APIs which are not compliant with RFC6750, the key for the token in each location is customizable.

bodyKey

Type: string
Default: "access_token"

The key that will be used to find the token in the request body.

queryKey

Type: string
Default: "access_token"

The key that will be used to find the token in the request params.

headerKey

Type: string
Default: "Bearer"

The value that will be used to find the token in the request header. Case-insensitive.

cookie

Type: boolean | object
Default: false

Set to enable cookie parsing. If the cookie is signed, a secret must be set.

Setting this to true uses the default { key: "access_token" }.

[!WARNING] By NOT setting signed: true, you are accepting a non-signed cookie and an attacker might spoof the cookies. Use signed cookies when possible.

key

Type: string
Default: "access_token"

The key that will be used to find the token in the request cookies.

signed

Type: boolean
Default: false

Whether or not to disallow unsigned cookies. If true, a secret must be set.

secret

Type: string

The secret used to sign the cookie. If set, the cookie will be verified and parsed.
