Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

playui-react

playui-react is an open-source, modern, lightweight design system and a React component library for effortless frontend development. It offers accessible components with customizable themes.

Why playui-react?

  • TypeScript: All the library components are type-safe.

  • Tested: Components well-tested for usability and accessibility.

  • Storybook: A centrally hosted documentation with a playground for UI components and sample code snippets.

  • Design Tokens: Customize your design system to match your branding needs. Extend the default tokens with your own values.

  • Accessible: Accessibility with support for keyboard users, screen readers.

Storybook

A playground for components with code snippets can be browsed on the Storybook documentation. Check out the full list of components on the storybook website.

Installation

To install the playui-react using npm:

npm install playui-react

Usage

The playui-react component library can be installed in any React project. As the components are shipped with type declarations, developers can easily explore the props and their allowed values.

  1. Install the playui-react from npm registry.
    npm install playui-react
  2. Use in React component.
    import { Button, ThemeProvider } from "playui-react";

    function App() {
      return (
        <>
          <ThemeProvider mode="dark">
            <Button
              size="large"
              variant="primary"
              onClick={() => alert("Clicked!")}
            >
              Primary Button
            </Button>
          </ThemeProvider>
        </>
      );
    }

    export default App;

Integrating the playui-react storybook

It's recommended that you also integrate our publicly hosted playui-react storybook within your React project.

You’ll be able to browse the design system components and docs while developing your app.

In your .stroybook/main.ts file, add following config,

// ...
  refs: {
    "design-system": {
      title: 'PlayUI Components',
      //👇 The public url of 'playui-react' storybook
      url: 'https://upadhyayprakash.github.io/playui-react',
    },
  },
// ...

[!NOTE] Showcasing the design system during feature development increases the likelihood that developers will reuse existing components instead of wasting time inventing their own.
