Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

php-js-dateformat

A JavaScript Library for PHP-Style Date Formatting

php-js-dateformat is a lightweight and powerful JavaScript library that mimics PHP's date_format() function, enabling seamless date formatting with PHP-style format strings.

Features

  • PHP-Style Formatting: Format dates using familiar strings like Y-m-d and H:i:s.
  • Lightweight: Designed to be easy to integrate into any JavaScript project.
  • Escape Support: Handle escape characters and character sets effortlessly.

Installation

Using npm:

npm install php-js-dateformat

Basic Usage

Here’s how you can start using php-js-dateformat

Formatting Dates

import dateFormat from 'php-js-dateformat';

const date = new Date();

console.log(dateFormat(date, 'Y-m-d H:i:s'));
// Output: 2024-11-23 15:30:45

Escaping Characters

  • Single Characters: Use a backslash (\) to escape characters.
    console.log(dateFormat(date, '\\Y Y-m-d H:i:s'));
    // Output: Y 2024-11-23 15:30:45
  • Character Sets: Use curly braces ({}) to escape a set of characters.
    console.log(dateFormat(date, '{Date:} Y-m-d H:i:s'));
    // Output: Date: 2024-11-23 15:30:45

Supported Format Characters

php-js-dateformat supports most of the format characters found in PHP's date format function, including:

  • Year: Y, y
  • Month: m, n, F, M
  • Day: d, j, l, D
  • Hour: H, h, G, g
  • Minute: i
  • Second: s
  • And more...

For a full list, refer to the PHP Documentation.

Unsupported Parameters

Due to limitations in the browser's Date API, some parameters behave differently:

  • Timezone-related Parameters: O, P, p, and T always return the local timezone.
  • Microseconds (v): Always returns milliseconds * 1000 as true microseconds are not supported.
  • T (Timezone Abbreviation): Returns the same as O. For actual timezone abbreviations, use:
    import { getTimezoneByName } from 'php-js-dateformat/timezone';

    const timezoneInfo = getTimezoneByName('Asia/Calcutta');
    console.log(timezoneInfo?.abbr); // Output: IST (or `undefined`)
