Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Microsoft Azure Active Directory Passport.js Plug-In

npm version

passport-azure-ad is a collection of Passport Strategies to help you integrate with Azure Active Directory. It includes OpenID Connect, WS-Federation, and SAML-P authentication and authorization. These providers let you integrate your Node app with Microsoft Azure AD so you can use its many features, including web single sign-on (WebSSO), Endpoint Protection with OAuth, and JWT token issuance and validation.

1. Installation

$ npm install passport-firebase-azure-ad

2. Usage

This package is intended to allow users to authenticate and authorise Microsoft home, school and work accounts while working in a firebase environment. This is achieved by altering Microsoft's original passport-azure-ad npm package to store the time and encrypted cookie in the "__session" cookie with the "azure" prefix, current time and date + encrypted cookie as the value. In firebase, cookies can only be titled "__session" and anything else is removed. Authenticating and authorising should be unchanged but if you are using firebase, you must have useCookieInsteadOFSession and cookie encrypted keys set in your OIDCStrategy.

passport.use(new OIDCStrategy({
...
...
    useCookieInsteadOfSession: true,
    cookieEncryptionKeys: [
            {key: "12345678901234567890123456789012", iv: "012345678901"}
        ]
...
});

Note: key must be a string of length 32 (32 bytes) and iv must be a string of length 12 (12 bytes).

3. Full Documentation

Original passport-azure-ad module can be found on github: Here. Please refer to this for full documentation on how to utilise passport-azure-ad. Almost everything should apply to this module as I have only made a small modification.

4. Note

I am stil a student and don't have a lot of experience yet and there may be a better way to authorise/authenticate microsoft azure users using vanilla passport-azure-ad and firebase but I struggled to find a solution until I made this. Feel free to contact me about any tips you might have for me or any problems you face using this package. Thank you.
