Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

node-red-contrib-wit-ai

Node-RED nodes to integrate with Wit.ai.

Install

Run the following command in your Node-RED user directory - typically ~/.node-red

    npm install node-red-contrib-wit-ai

Make sure you have an account and an app at https://wit.ai/. You will need the Server Access Token that can be found in the Settings menu of your Wit.ai app.

Wit.ai API conformance

20160330

https://wit.ai/docs/http/20160330

Usage

Provides these nodes:

Note: One each of Merge, Say and Error are required to be in the flow. Also, one Action node for each defined action is required.

Wit Message

Takes a sentence and returns the meaning.

Expects the payload to be a String.

Uses wit.ai's /message endpoint.

Does not yet support the context, msg_id, thread_id, and n parameters.

Wit Converse

This is the node where you send a question or statement to your Wit.ai bot. Typically you would hook this up to a messaging app like Slack or Facebook Messanger.

You can provide a sessionId and a context along with the payload. If not, they will be created for you.

After the Converse node has been given a message, the Merge, Action and Say nodes will trigger.

Wit Merge

For each configured Wit.ai bot you must provide one single Merge node. After a message has been sent to the bots Converse node, the Merge node will trigger and send a message with a context and entities.

Attach a Function node to the merge node and modify the provided context depending on the recieved entities.

The Function node must then send the message along to a Response node configured for the same Wit.ai bot as the Merge node where the message originated.

Its best if you keep the same msg object through your flow, so to not loose any meta information stored by the Wit.ai bot.

Wit Action

If you have configured an action in any of your Wit.ai stories, you need to create an Action node in your flow with the same action name.

This node will be triggered if the conversation identifies this action.

Like the Merge node, you should let the message from an Action node continue to a Response node. Modify the msg object, but don't replace it.

You can only have one Action node for each action on a bot.

Wit Response

A Response node takes the message from a Merge or Action node and makes sure the conversation continues.

Wit Say

The Say node is triggered when the bot has something to say. Typically you would forward the payload to a messaging system like Slack or Facebook Messanger.

Wit Error

The Error node outputs any errors that was enconuntered during the conversation. This could be forwarded to a messaging system.
