Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Node-RED Spike Reporter Node

This is a node for Node-RED which monitors a system's state and generates alarms based on consecutive out-of-control status indications. This node accepts input from the node-red-contrib-simple-spc node.

Installation

To install this node, run the following command in your Node-RED user directory - typically ~/.node-red:

npm install node-red-contrib-spike-reporter

Usage

The Alarm node accepts a message object (msg) with a payload property (msg.payload). The payload should be an object with an outOfControl property, which is a boolean.

The node will track the outOfControl status in a moving window of messages. When the window fills up, the node will evaluate the window:

  • If all of the outOfControl values are true, the node will generate an alarm message, and update its status to "Alarm: Out of Control".
  • If some but not all of the outOfControl values are true, the node will generate a spike message, and update its status to "Spike detected".
  • If none of the outOfControl values are true, the node will maintain a normal status.

The node's status will also update if the message object does not have the expected outOfControl property, or if there's an error in the node.

Configuration

  • Message Window Size: The size of the message window can be configured using the messageWindowSize property in the node configuration. By default, the size is set to 5.
