Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

node-pd

A utility that helps you download video of Pluralsight to your local disk.

Feature

  • (new) Downloads transcript and convert to SRT subtitle file for each video file
  • (new) Stores user/pass and path so that no need to key in while downloading
  • Remembers the progress of downloading
  • Wait for seconds (cooldown) after each clip downloads, prevent your account from being disabled

Note

Using this tool requires you to have your own valid subscription to Pluralsight

Usage

npm install -g node-pd
pd download -u [account] -p [password] -s [path-to-save] [list of course id separated by space char]

Or configure before downloading.

pd config -u [account] -p [password] -s [path-to-save]
pd download [list of course id separated by space char]

How to find course id

E.g., if URL of a course page is "https://www.pluralsight.com/courses/react-redux-react-router-es6", the course id is "react-redux-react-router-es6".

Examples

pd download react-redux-react-router-es6 play-by-play-nano-server

This will download both "Building Applications with React and Redux in ES6" and "Play by Play: Nano Server".

Customize cooldown time

To prevent Pluralsight from blocking your account, we need to wait for dozens of seconds between downloads.

There're 3 modes: Auto, Normal, Prudent. The default mode is Auto, in which the interval is calculated based on video duration.

pd config -d [Auto|Normal|Prudent]

Here Normal is around 45 seconds, Prudent is around 60 seconds.

You can also specify a static number of seconds. E.g.,

pd config -d 4

The program will wait for 4 seconds after each download.

Warning

Using this tool might violate the Terms of Use of Pluralsight, use at your own risk.
