Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Description

Building an angular application is pretty easy, but leaving it with a good score on the crawlers already starts to complicate. With the advent of new techniques for SEO and how the web pages are built, questions arise that begin to get more complex in your project.

Two of them are: canonical links and structured data

It is of utmost importance to use these two artifacts to succeed in SEO. And as this process begins on the server, this library has been developed with a single goal: to provide SEO resolution and optimization ways to render the application on the server.

Installation

Use the node package manager to install: npm i ngx-seo-page or yarn yarn add ngx-seo-page and its done!

There is no more configuration to install.

Usage

It is very simple to use this library but, first of all, I advise its use in two points:

  • If you are using a Resolve, use tap to use the library
import { Injectable } from '@angular/core';
import { ActivatedRouteSnapshot, Resolve, RouterStateSnapshot } from '@angular/router';

import { Observable } from 'rxjs';
import { tap } from 'rxjs/operators';

import { PageService } from 'ngx-seo-page';

import { ApiService } from '@application/core/api/api.service';

@Injectable({
  providedIn: 'root',
})
export class RandomResolverService implements Resolve<any> {
  constructor(private apiService: ApiService, private pageService: PageService) {}

  resolve(route: ActivatedRouteSnapshot, state: RouterStateSnapshot): Observable<any> | Promise<any> | any {
    return this.apiService.fetchSomeRandomData().pipe(
      tap(() => {
        this.pageService.updatePage({
          title: 'Some Random Title',
          schema: {
            '@type': 'WebSite',
            name: 'Github',
            url: 'https://github.com',
          },
          metatags: [
            { name: 'description', content: 'Description XPTO' },
            { property: 'og:url', content: 'https://github.com/' },
            { property: 'og:title', content: 'Github' },
          ],
          canonical: 'https://www.github.com/',
        });
      })
    );
  }
}
  • But you you are not using a Resolve and just a simple component, it is preferable that you place inside on OnInit
import { Component, OnInit, ChangeDetectionStrategy } from '@angular/core';
import { ActivatedRoute } from '@angular/router';

import { PageService } from 'ngx-seo-page';

@Component({
  selector: 'nmk-random',
  templateUrl: './random.component.html',
  styleUrls: ['./random.component.scss'],
  changeDetection: ChangeDetectionStrategy.OnPush,
})
export class RandomComponent implements OnInit {
  constructor(private pageService: PageService) {}

  ngOnInit() {
    this.pageService.updatePage({
      title: 'Some Random Title',
      schema: {
        '@type': 'WebSite',
        name: 'Github',
        url: 'https://github.com',
      },
      metatags: [
        { name: 'description', content: 'Description XPTO' },
        { property: 'og:url', content: 'https://github.com/' },
        { property: 'og:title', content: 'Github' },
      ],
      canonical: 'https://www.github.com/',
    });
  }
}
