Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

ng-cdk-tooltip

Installation

To install this library, run:

$ npm install ng-cdk-tooltip --save

Set up for the tooltip

You need import the NgCdkTooltipModule in your Angular modules:

import { NgCdkTooltipModule }  from 'ng-cdk-tooltip';

IMPORTANT!: If you are using Angular Material (@angular/material) in your app and you are using a prebuild theme like:

@import "~@angular/material/prebuilt-themes/indigo-pink.css";

the tooltip will work correctly. Otherwise you need to add this line to your style.css:

@import "~@angular/cdk/overlay-prebuilt.css";

Using the tooltip

Trigger types

It is possible to open the popover by hover or click event. You can adjust the trigger type by setting the stTooltipTrigger attribute to click/hover.

Hover: The popover triggered by hover will close immediately after the mouse exits the trigger. In hover mode, focus on the Trigger element will display the tooltip. Focusout will hide it.

Click: The popover triggered by click will stay open until the user explicitly closes the the popover.

<button [ngCdkTooltipTriggerFor]="tooltipRef" ngCdkTooltipTrigger="click">
  Click
</button>

<ng-cdk-tooltip #tooltipRef>
  Trigger by click
</ng-cdk-tooltip>

Positioning

It is possible to position the tooltip top/right/bottom/left to the trigger by setting the stTooltipDirection attribute to top/right/bottom/left.

<button [ngCdkTooltipTriggerFor]="tooltipRef"
        ngCdkTooltipPosition="right">
  Hover
</button>

<ng-cdk-tooltip #tooltipRef>
  Trigger on right
</ng-cdk-tooltip>

Fallback strategy

The positioning of the popover follows a fallback strategy to make sure, that the component displayed correctly in the most common situations. Fallback means, that the popover tries to find a fitting position within the window.

Initial visible

Is possible to show the tooltip visible at first:

<button [ngCdkTooltipTriggerFor]="tooltipRef"
        [ngCdkTooltipInitialVisible]="true">
  Hover
</button>

<ng-cdk-tooltip #tooltipRef>
  Initial visible
</ng-cdk-tooltip>```
#### Scroll strategy
The popover implements the two strategies close/reposition to handle the behaviour of the popover when the owning container scrolls.
The strategy close will automatically closes the popover, while reposition scrolls the popover with its origin.
```xml
<button [ngCdkTooltipTriggerFor]="tooltipRef"
        ngCdkPopoverScrollStrategy="close">
        Click
</button>
<ng-cdk-tooltip #tooltipRef>
  Trigger close scroll
</ng-cdk-tooltip>```
#### Closed event
Is possible to subscribe to a closed event.
```xml
<button [ngCdkTooltipTriggerFor]="tooltipRef">
  Click
</button>

<ng-cdk-tooltip (ngCdkClosed)="onClosed()" #tooltipRef>
  Subscribe to close
</ng-cdk-tooltip>```
