Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

node-multidoc

This is a port of a PHP library I wrote years ago for parsing what I call 'multidocs', a simple plain text document format designed for writing blog posts. A multidoc consists of a YAML preamble plus a sequence of typed content blocks, each of which may have an argument list in the form of key/value pairs. It looks like this:

title: My First Post
publish_date: 2013-10-29T21:30

--- markdown

# First Post

consequat. Duis aute irure dolor in reprehenderit in voluptate velit esse
cillum dolore eu fugiat nulla pariatur.

--- image_gallery caption:"holiday photos!" rows:5 columns:5

1.jpg
2.jpg
3.jpg
4.jpg

--- code language:javascript

for (var k in foo) {
    console.log(k + " = " + foo[k]);
}

--- markdown

## Here's some more text content

consequat. Duis aute irure dolor in reprehenderit in voluptate velit esse
cillum dolore eu fugiat nulla pariatur.

This library will parse the above document into the following Javascript structure:

{ blocks:
   [ { type: 'markdown',
       args: {},
     { type: 'image_gallery',
       args: { caption: 'holiday photos!', rows: '5', columns: '5' },
       content: '\n1.jpg\n2.jpg\n3.jpg\n4.jpg\n\n' },
     { type: 'code',
       args: { language: 'javascript' },
       content: '\nfor (var k in foo) {\n    console.log(k + " = " + foo[k]);\n}\n\n' },
     { type: 'markdown',
       args: {},
       content: '\n## Here\'s some more text content\n\nLorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod\ntempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua.
  title: 'My First Post',
  publish_date: Tue Oct 29 2013 21:30:00 GMT+0000 (GMT) }

Notes

  • "bool-ish" values (true, false, yes, no, on, off) in block argument lists will be converted to boolean values
  • any values (in YAML or argument lists) looking roughly like ISO-8601 dates will be converted into Date instances

Usage

Get it:

npm install multidoc

Use it:

var fs = require('fs');
var multidoc = require('multidoc');

var parsed = multidoc(fs.readFileSync('./test/test.mdoc'));
