Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

Medium to Markdown Converter

A simple tool to convert Medium blogs to Markdown and clean up the Markdown file.

Description

This tool uses Puppeteer to scrape Medium blog posts, download images, convert the HTML content to Markdown using Pandoc, and then clean up the Markdown file by removing unwanted tags and formatting code blocks.

Prerequisites

Ensure you have the following installed:

  • Node.js: Node.js is required, which includes the npm package manager. npm is used to install the necessary dependencies. You can download and install Node.js from the official website.
  • Pandoc: Pandoc is used by the CLI to convert HTML content to Markdown. You can download and install Pandoc from the official website.

Installation

Install the dependencies:

npm install -g medium-blog-exporter 

Usage

To use the tool, run the following command with the Medium blog URL as a parameter:

mediummd 'https://medium.com/some-blog-post-url'

Features

  • Downloads images from the Medium blog post into _media folder and updates the Markdown file with local image paths.
  • Converts the HTML content of the blog post to Markdown.
  • Cleans up the Markdown file by removing div and span tags and formatting code blocks.
  • Removes angle brackets around URLs.
  • Removes content after the last header and before the "Share" line.
  • Removes unnecessary empty lines.
