Locks. Doors. Windows. Basically, anything can be locked with a deadbolt. The law usually frowns on this type of locking system, but as long as the deadbolt is accessible from the outside of the building and can be slid open by hand, it can meet the need. This type of deadbolt is found in most residential structures. It can be either a simple bolt or a latch and wheel combination. A bolt is usually set at about 3 inches from the top of the door while a latch is typically set at an inch or two. When the deadbolt is locked, a key is required to slide the bolt free. When the bolt is slid open, a second key is required to lock the door. By far, the most used bolt deadbolts in the United States are Home Depot's electronic deadbolt. The same body housed a sliding door bolt and a latch system which would lock the door if the bolt was locked. Unfortunately, Home Depot ceased production of the more intricate design, but they still sell the electronic deadbolt and the parts if the three deadbolt system.
The cam was released in August, 2008. I was hoping for a revised version of the Mastercam. Even though there is not an updated version of the Mastercam, I was prepared for this review based on previous versions of this climbing device. The Mastercam is an elegant solution for small cracks. It is made for narrow cracks and is designed to fit the awkward, micro-cracks found on steep, overhanging rock.
The use of the term, "bolts-by-the-tons" often conjures images of athletes blowing their doors off their frames during post-race celebrations. If you are not familiar with the term, it refers to the large hounds found in hunting clubs. While the number of bolts a club may have is likely to be exaggerated, the term does resonate the club's ability to provide a myriad of aid climbing training devices, which are vital for the development of caving skills. For example, I enjoy using the Rainshadow for constructing roofs and walls to a route I am working on. The Rainshadow features a large number of bolts in a short distance. Not only do the bolts allow me to construct the route, but they are often the only piece of protection needed to begin the problem. Unlike the Mastercam, the Rainshadow is a U-shaped bar. It is ideal for providing a large number of small, slotted handholds and footholds, where the cam is simply too heavy and unwieldy. 84d34552a1
