Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Leslie Knope Compliment Generator

NPM version

A node.js package to generate compliments like Parks and Rec's Leslie Knope.

Leslie Knope saying "Ann, you rainbow infused space unicorn"

Setup

Simply install with NPM.

npm install knope

Basic Usage

To use, simply require the package, then retrieve a compliment with the getCompliment('Ann') method by passing in the subject's name as a parameter.

const knope = require('knope')

// Pass in the name as a parameter
var compliment = knope.getCompliment('Ann')

console.log(compliment)

Some examples include:

  • Ann, you faithful hippopotamus.
  • Ann, you energized worm.
  • Ann, you self-disciplined boar.
  • Ann, you knowledgeable crocodile.
  • Ann, you pioneering lark.

Extra Perks

You can pass in a few other parameters for a few more options. Pass in a number anywhere from 2-5 in the second parameter to get back that many adjectives. Instead of a number, you can also pass in the string 'random' to get a random (between 1 and 5) number of adjectives back.

const knope = require('knope')

// Get three adjectives before the animal for Ann, because she's great.
var compliment = knope.getCompliment('Ann', 3)

console.log(compliment)

Example:

  • Ann, you beautiful, talented, powerful, muskox.

You can also specify whether you want an Oxford comma or not. It's included by default because that's the right thing to do. If you'd like to turn it off, make your third parameter false.

const knope = require('knope')

// Get three adjectives before the animal for Ann, because she's great.
var compliment = knope.getCompliment('Ann', 3)

console.log(compliment)

Example:

  • Ann, you inspired, fortuitous, smart caribou.

Alliteration

If you're aching for alliteration, feel free to use the getComplimentWithAlliteration method.

const knope = require('knope')

// Gets a compliment with alliteration
var compliment = knope.getComplimentWithAlliteration('Ann')

console.log(compliment)

Some examples include:

  • Ann, you compassionate chimpanzee.
  • Ann, you modest mallard.

Official Compliments

If you'd like an official compliment straight from Leslie Knope herself, use the getOfficialCompliment('Ann') method the same as above.

const knope = require('knope')

// Get 3 adjectives, without the oxford comma
var compliment = knope.getOfficialCompliment('Ann', 3, false)

console.log(compliment)

Some examples include:

  • Ann, you beautiful rule-breaking moth.
  • Ann, you beautiful, sassy mannequin come to life.
  • Ann, you beautiful tropical fish, you're smart as a whip, and cool under pressure.
