Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

KAT - Kimia Automation Tool (V 0.3)

KAT is a simple IT automation system. It handles configuration management and application deployment. KAT makes complex changes like zero-downtime rolling updates with load balancers easy. you can add custom modules to KAT and you LOVE it because you can write play scripts in typescript and compile it to json!

Design Principles

  • Have an extremely simple setup process with a minimal learning curve.
  • be agentless by leveraging the existing SSH daemon.
  • using json for describe play scripts
  • Allow module development
  • using typescript for generate play scripts

Available modules

  • [x] cmd: run a command on remote hosts
  • [x] watch: watch on a local directory changes
  • [ ] git: run git commands on remote hosts
  • [ ] apt: run apt-get comands on remote debian-based hosts
  • [x] if: can use condition for more control on tasks nad outputs of them
  • [x] regex: can search and find on outputs of tasks with regex and decide
  • [ ] scp: upload files and directories with SFTP to remote hosts
  • [ ] docker: run docker commands on remote hosts

get-started

just install with npm: npm i kat-tool -g

hello world! sample

  • kat make first_play
  • cd first_play
  • kat compile -i play.ts
  • kat play -i play.json

Roadmap

  • you need two files:
    • hosts.json: list of remote hosts information (for ssh connection)
    • play.json: a play script that run on specific remote hosts or all of them
  • you can create play.json by your self. but can use typescript (for now!) to generate it!
  • also you can define your hosts in typescript!
  • every module has a header in ts, that help you to create a play script on typescript as type-safe and developer-friendly :)
