Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

json2css Build status

Convert JSON into pre-processor ready CSS.

This was initially designed for generating coordinates for a mapping of sprites on a spritesheet. However, it should be usable for anything related to dimensions/positions and CSS.

Getting Started

Install the module with: npm install json2css

// Compilation
var json2css = require('json2css'),
    obj = [
      {'name': 'github', 'x': 0, 'y': 0, 'width': 10, 'height': 20, 'total_width': 80, 'total_height': 100, 'image': 'spritesheet.png'},
      {'name': 'twitter', 'x': 10, 'y': 20, 'width': 20, 'height': 30, 'total_width': 80, 'total_height': 100, 'image': 'spritesheet.png'},
      {'name': 'rss', 'x': 30, 'y': 50, 'width': 50, 'height': 50, 'image': 'spritesheet.png'}
    ],
    stylus = json2css(obj, {'format': 'stylus'});

// Result (stylus)
$github_x = 0px;
$github_y = 0px;
...
$github = 0px 0px 0px 0px 10px 20px 80px 100px 'spritesheet.png';
...
$twitter = 10px 20px -10px -20px 20px 30px 80px 100px 'spritesheet.png';
...
$rss = 30px 50px -30px -50px 50px 50px 80px 100px 'spritesheet.png';
...
spriteWidth($sprite) {
  width: $sprite[0];
}
...
sprite($sprite) {
  spriteImage($sprite)
  spritePosition($sprite)
  spriteWidth($sprite)
  spriteHeight($sprite)
}

// Inside of your Stylus
.githubLogo {
  sprite($github);
}

Documentation

json2css is a single function repo

/**
 * @param {Object[]} input Object to convert into CSS
 * @param {String} input[*].name Name to use for the image
 * @param {Number} input[*].x Horizontal coordinate of top-left corner of image
 * @param {Number} input[*].y Vertical coordinate of top-left corner of image
 * @param {Number} input[*].width Horizontal length of image

New templates can be added dynamically via

// Processes template via function
json2css.addTemplate(name, fn);

// Processes template via mustache
json2css.addMustacheTemplate(name, tmplStr);
