Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

JSMicro TypeOf

An extended Javascript object type getter. JSMicro TypeOf will allow us to register our own object type.

Installation

bower install --save jsmicro-typeof
npm install --save jsmicro-typeof

Usage

For browser usage, simply load the index.js and typeOf will available on window. Example:

<script src="bower_components/jsmicro-typeof/index.js"></script>
console.log(typeOf('Test')); // string
console.log(typeOf([])); // array

// Create a class and register the object type.
function People() {
  // Register the object type.
  typeOf.add('People', this);

  return this;
}

var john = new People();

console.log(typeOf(john)); // people

For NodeJS usage, simply load the jsmicro-typeof module and typeOf will available on global. Example:

'use strict';

require('jsmicro-typeof');

// Create a class and register the object type.
class People {
  constructor() {
    // Register the object type.
    typeOf.add('People', this);
  }
}

// Extend Object and register as new type.
class Library extends Array {
  constructor(items) {
    super(items);
    typeOf.add('Library', this);
  }
}

// Create a People and Library instance.
var john = new People();
var libs = new Library();

console.log(typeOf(john)); // people
console.log(typeOf(libs)); // library
console.log(typeOf([])); // array

Methods

typeOf(OBJECT)

Get the type of javascript objects. This method will return a single string type of the object. E.g: string, array, object, etc.

  • OBJECT - A javascript object to get the type of. E.g: [], '', {}.

typeOf.add(NAME, OBJECT)

Register custom object type, so the typeOf() will understand the type of it. This method will return nothing.

  • NAME - String type name. We prefer to use uppercase for first letter, e.g: People, User, etc. The registered type will be in constructor format. E.g: [object People], [object User].
  • OBJECT - Object to register the type of.

typeOf.raw(OBJECT)

Get raw type of javascript objects. While the typeOf() return a single string object type, raw method will return the constructor type. E.g: [object Array], [object String], [object Boolean], etc.

  • OBJECT - A javascript object to get the type of. E.g: [], '', {}.
