Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Get Started

Installation

  1. Install the library:
npm i js-coverage-badges

or

yarn add js-coverage-badges

Requirements

Configure your test library: we support Jest or Mock.

Mocha Configuration

Using:

"nyc": "^15.1.0",

Add the following to your package.json:

"nyc": {
    "extension": [
      ".js"
    ],
    "reporter": [
      "json-summary",
      "lcov",
      "text"
    ],
    "include": [
      "src"
    ],
    "exclude": "**/*.mock.js"
  }

Run:

nyc report --reporter=lcov --reporter=text --reporter=json-summary

It is necessary to have the .nyc_output folder.

Jest Configuration

Just run:

jest --coverage --coverageReporters="json-summary"

Note: This commands will create a coverage folder. It is necessary that the coverage folder exists in your project to use this library.

Usage

Run the command:

npx js-coverage-badges {badges_output}

Example:

npx js-coverage-badges badges_output

This command will create a folder:

└── badges_output
     ├── branches.svg
     ├── branches_chart.svg
     ├── functions.svg
     ├── functions_chart.svg
     ├── lines.svg
     ├── lines_chart.svg
     ├── statements.svg
     └── statements_chart.svg

Modes

By default, the tool generates two images for each test type (statements, functions, branches, and lines): one badge and one donut chart. However, you can choose to generate only the badge or only the chart.

Badge Mode

To generate only badges (no charts), run:

npx js-coverage-badges badges_output mode:badge

This will create only the badge images:

└── badges_output
     ├── branches.svg
     ├── functions.svg
     ├── lines.svg
     └── statements.svg

Add the following code to your README.md to display the badges:

**Test Coverage**

| Statements                  | Branches                | Functions                 | Lines             |
| --------------------------- | ----------------------- | ------------------------- | ----------------- |
| ![Statements](./badges_output/statements.svg) | ![Branches](./badges_output/branches.svg) | ![Functions](./badges_output/functions.svg) | ![Lines](./badges_output/lines.svg) |

The badges will be displayed like this:

Test Coverage

| Statements | Branches | Functions | Lines | | --------------------------- | ----------------------- | ------------------------- | ----------------- | | Statements | Branches | Functions | Lines |

Chart Mode

To generate only donut charts (no badges), run:

npx js-coverage-badges badges_output mode:chart

This will create only the chart images:

└── badges_output
     ├── branches_chart.svg
     ├── functions_chart.svg
     ├── lines_chart.svg
     └── statements_chart.svg

Add the following code to your README.md to display the charts:

**Test Coverage**

![Lines](./badges_output/lines_chart.svg) ![Statements](./badges_output/statements_chart.svg)  ![Branches](./badges_output/branches_chart.svg)  ![Functions](./badges_output/functions_chart.svg)

The charts will be displayed like this:

Functions Statements Branches Lines
