Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

jQuery Widget

Build Status

jQuery Widget Factory is a small framework for building UI components, really gorgeous.

From now it can be used as an independent view component as React with the support of JSX and virtual dom, this makes it more adaptable than before.

It's easy to integrate it with flux/redux workflow, checkout the examples of todomvc.

Difference to the original implementation

  • The option() is also used to manage the component state
  • The render() is added to render the component, the original constructor argument called element isn't needed
  • Support JSX and virtual dom, the createWidget() is used to create virtual dom tree
  • Make the widget class local, remove the namespace and the global reference such as jQuery.ui
  • Remove the feature of class redefining

Example from flux-todomvc

var Footer = require('./Footer');
var Header = require('./Header');
var MainSection = require('./MainSection');
var createWidget = require('jquery-widget');
var TodoStore = require('../stores/TodoStore');

/**
 * Retrieve the current TODO data from the TodoStore
 */
function getTodoState() {
  return {
    allTodos: TodoStore.getAll(),
    areAllComplete: TodoStore.areAllComplete()
  };
}

var TodoApp = createWidget('TodoApp', {

  _getCreateOptions: getTodoState,

  _create: function() {
    this._on(TodoStore, {
        'change': '_onChange'
    });
  },

  /**
   * @return {object}
   */
  render: function() {
    return (
      <div>
        <Header />
        <MainSection
          allTodos={this.options.allTodos}
          areAllComplete={this.options.areAllComplete}
        />
        <Footer allTodos={this.options.allTodos} />
      </div>
    );
  },

  /**
   * Event handler for 'change' events coming from the TodoStore
   */
  _onChange: function() {
    this.option(getTodoState());
  }

});

module.exports = TodoApp;
